Year 6 Leavers' Celebration
July 2007

During the summer term, the children of Year 6 study 'The Rainforest' as their Geography topic. Each year, the classrooms and corridors are transformed into a magical rainforest environment. This was the inspiration behind the 2007 Leavers' Celebration, as the children chose to perform their own version of

'The Jungle Book'.

Written by Rudyard Kipling and popularised by the Walt Disney animated film, 'The Jungle' Book' tells the tale of a young 'man-cub' called Mowgli. Orphaned as a baby, Mowgli is found by a kind panther named Bagheera, who leaves the child with a pack of wolves who raise him as one of their own.

All seems well for the young man-cub, until news spreads through the jungle that Shere Khan, a ferocious man-eating tiger, has returned. His intention - to destroy the man-cub once and for all.

There is nothing else for it - Mowgli must return to the man-village. Guided along the way by Bagheera, and aided by a whole host of jungle friends, Mowgli reluctantly starts out on his long journey. Before too long, Mowgli realises it is not only Shere Khan that he has to be wary of.

Can he make it through the jungle to the man-village, and what will he find when he gets there?

All the hard work and effort during rehearsals really paid off. Not only did the children impress parents at the Leavers' Celebration Evening, they also kept the whole school entertained during a second performance on the last day of term. Thanks go to the teachers and everyone else who worked so hard to produce such a high standard of entertainment.

We wish our leavers all the very best as they begin their secondary education, and hope that they will always remember Forefield Junior School with happy memories.
