5E Class Assembly

'The Gift of Laughter'

During the run up to Christmas, when most people were busy thinking about the gifts they would be giving and receiving, Class 5E brought a different kind of gift to our attention - 'The Gift of Laughter!'

Led in by their grand ringmaster, the children hopped, skipped, jumped and tumbled into the hall dressed in a fantastic array of colourful clown costumes, much to the delight of their waiting audience.

"Roll up, roll up! The circus has come to town!"

Clowns have been around for many hundreds of years, although they haven't always worn red noses, baggy trousers and enormous shoes. 5E taught us about different clowns, from the Court Jester, through the black and white 'Pierrot' clown and 'tramp' clowns to the slapstick circus clown with whom we are more familiar today.

Can I have a volunteer from the audience, please?

Of course, audience participation always makes clowning much more fun! So after pretending to throw a bucket of water over everyone, the clowns chose a young volunteer from Year 3 to have a stylish new clown makeover. Doesn't she look great?

The whole class led us in two songs, 'Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer' and 'When You're Smiling'.

Laughter isn't the only gift that we can give to other people. Several of the children made suggestions of other gifts that we can give everyday that don't cost a penny. We can give the gift of friendship to those who are lonely. We can give the gift of thanks to those who do so much for us. We can give the gift of love to our friends and family. Sometimes a simple hug can mean more to somebody than anything that money can buy.

What free gift will you give to somebody today?
