What does it take to be a friend?

What does it take to be a friend?

The children of 5D had a long, hard think about this question. The answers they came up with were expressed through stories and examples in their class assembly. Look at the pictures and read the storyboards below. Who do you think are being good friends?

Jesus Heals the Paralysed Man

Click any picture to enlarge. Jesus was preaching Jesus can heal our friend.
This story tells how a group of men go to extreme lengths to help their friend.
Jesus was visiting a nearby village, preaching the gospel and healing the sick.
"Let us take our friend to Jesus. He can heal him and make him walk again," said the men.

They could not get past the crowd. There was a sound coming from above. The men lower their friend to Jesus.
When they got to the place were Jesus was, there was a huge crowd and they could not get near him. One of the men had an idea.
The people inside the building began to hear strange noises coming from above their heads. "What is happening?" they thought.
The men made a hole in the roof and lowered their friend to Jesus. He healed the man and praised the friends for their faithfulness.

The Lonely Old Woman

There was once a lonely old woman. The letter said she had won the lottery. Everyone wanted to be her friend.
There was once a lonely old woman. Each day she sat at her front door, but nobody had time to stop and talk to her apart from one friendly neighbour.
One day, the postman arrived with a letter. It was good news! She had won a big prize in a lottery. She was rich!

Now everybody had time to stop and talk to the old woman and nobody ever went away empty handed.

The money soon ran out.

Before too long, the money had all gone. Her so-called 'friends' no longer had the time to stop and talk.

However, there was still one person who stopped by each day. Her old friend always called in for a cup of tea and a chat. The old lady had learned a very important lesson:

"Money cannot buy friendship."

At least she still had one true friend.

The best way to make sure that you always have friends is to always be a friend.
To whom will you offer the hand of friendship today?
